My Puppy

Whenever I’m feeling like the entire world doesn’t understand me, or I think there is something wrong with me, I confide in my dog. He always makes me feel better. He still wiggles and waggles the same way he did when he was a puppy, which is really comical because he’s so big now.
He still loves to rub up against me; it almost makes me fall down. I keep telling him not to do that, one of these days he’s going to land me on my ass, but he doesn’t care, he just wants to be close to me. It’s sooo sweet!!
I still adore him just as much as I did when he was smaller than our little dog: Tippy; now if he stands on his hind legs he can kiss me on the mouth, though I’ve told him not to do that, ‘cause he’s a dog and that’s grows. I love, love, love, love him!
He likes to sleep beneath my bedroom window, so if the window is open and I’m listening to songs on my computer I can hear him sigh. These sighs are superbly timed, they always occur every time an angry rock song ends, then I play something softer, and I don’t get any comments from the doggy peanut gallery. I guess he doesn’t care for screaming and guitar solos.
So, I love him, he loves me, and all is right with the world!
Merlin, my puppy!

Vitamin Dog

Whenever I’m feeling put out, or if I need something to lift my energy level up a notch or five, there is one person that will make everything alright: my dog. The master of the yard, the receiver of treats, and the lover of walks: that dog is everything. He’s got the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on an animal, and I swear he thinks he’s a puppy and doesn’t understand why my lap keeps getting smaller and smaller, when in fact he’s the one that’s changing sizes. He’s the most protective guy I know, he sleep just below my bedroom window to keep me safe.

All I need to do is go outside when I’m not at my best and I’ll be smiling again in no time. I don’t know what I would do without my daily dose of vitamin D; I’d be a real case.

Cloudy, Lousy

All I can think about is the clouds here in Southern California. So, I think I'll just complain.
Yesterday was sunny and over ninety degrees, what the heck happened? It's sixty degrees out and cloudy...no wonder I felt like hibernating this morning. But I don't have that option. Even my dog, my adorable bouncy dog is depressed. He looked at me and asked.
“Where’s my friend, the Sun Nana?”
“You know that’s a good question Mer. He didn’t call to say he’d be late or anything, he’s just gone.”
“Did we do something wrong?” Merlin asked.
“I wish I knew Mer, I wish I knew.”

I've lost my mind huh...

My Dog: The Actor

My doggie has a cold. I know it’s so sad. But I think he’s hamming it up just a bit. While I was hanging up the clothes Merlin was looking more depressed than I had ever seen him. He didn’t even bother to say hello to me.
Once I was done with my chore I ran inside to put some shoes on so that I could get to where he was without getting my socks dirty. When I came back outside, and he saw that I was laundry-less and my shoes were on, he got up and hurried over with big toothy doggie grin. I wanted to be mad, but I was out there anyway...So I sat down, he hopped in my lap, and I gave him some pets. Well, okay, a few pets. Okay, okay a lot. Alright, my hands went black I petted him so long now leave me alone!

Rose Dog

I went out to pet my dog today (who loves the weather here. I guess if I had a fur coat on all the time I’d prefer the cold too.) At one point he jolted away to the opposite side of the yard, at first I thought he was just being goofy, then I looked at the bush he was standing in front of and I saw what he wanted to show me: a little rose that was just beginning to bloom. He and I share a special love for flowers; on walks he will pause to smell every flower along the way. This particular rose was too high for Merlin to reach and sniff. So I gently bent the rose down so that he could smell it too. It was a very special moment for girl and dog.

The Little Things

People say that it's the little things that make life worth while...and their right.

This week has been really crazy. Anyone with a family knows that when one person gets sick everything tends to fall apart. That’s what happened this week. My little brother got sick on Monday morning, and that was it the entire week changed direction. Today he’s feeling better and I finally have time to do a few things that had been knocked down on my “To Do List” when he became ill.

I washed my dog, which everyone knows is the most important thing! (Now I’m blogging, which is the second most important thing!)
While I was toweling off my dog's stomach, it made a gurgle-gurgle sound.
“I’m sorry, I forgot you just had breakfast,” I giggled.
Then…..he burped! That was the funniest thing this week!

A Dog in My Lap

I was outside petting my adorable dog, (I know I’ve posted about my dog in the past, but I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned just how adorable he really is, despite his extra-large-doggie size; so let me just say, if God owned a dog, he’d look exactly like mine.) Yesterday, as I was paying homage to the beast, my little brother came outside to pay his respects as well. I was sitting in a chair that we keep outside, even though I don’t think it was really made for that purpose. Merlin, my pooch, got all perky with all the attention (he’s still acts like a puppy whenever he gets really excited) and he was bouncing between my brother and me.
Once when Merlin was getting pets from me, I said “Go get Zak,” and I playfully shooed my dog away with my hands. Instead of tilting his head at me, or going over to Zak like I expected, my dog jumped into my lap. My dog is so huge, that his bottom half stayed on the ground while his top half pinned me down in the chair, eventually he clamored down.
Then, just as an experiment, I tried it again. Shooing my dog with my hands I said, “Go get Zak,” immediately preceding which, my dog hopped into my lap. I told Zak to go and get the camera, and of course Merlin jumped down to see where Zak was going.
Once Zak got the camer it took a couple of tries this time before my dog would grace me with the honor of him leaping into my too-small-human lap. But we finally got him lying in my lap on film, which is good, because no one would have believed us if we didn’t...

Washing The Windows

I was outside washing the windows, and my dog was looking at me forlornly, the way he usually does when he can see me and I'm not petting him. Then it slowly dawned on me as he continued to stare at me like I was betraying him, that the motions that I made with my hands across the glass as I rubbed it dry, were remarkably similar to the hand motions that involve petting a dog.
"Oh Merlin," I said shaking my head, "you're making me feel bad for washing the windows...You dog."
He sighed dejectedly and walked away.
